The Victorian Council of Social Service is kicking off a major campaign around how unfair funding is impacting community organisations and broader communities. It’s an exciting campaign with very serious outcomes for rural and regional organisations and the communities they serve.
Government funding provides around half of community services income. The rest is obtained through donations, grants, bequests and service fees.
Organisations have told us that funding indexation is not keeping up with the real cost of delivering services, whilst at the same time demand for community services is increasing, especially in light of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, and with almost 800,000 Victorians living in poverty.
VCOSS wants to hear regional organisations’ stories of how unfair funding (inadequate indexation) is impacting their services, their staff, their community.
We’ll soon hit the road as part of our story gathering, with a view to packaging up these stories and using them in online campaigning (social media, website) and media, as well as in our direct advocacy to State MPs, Ministers and advisors.
The collection of stories is even more important for the rural and regional element of the campaign. As we all know, each region faces unique challenges. We need to be able to tell your story to the right people to have the biggest impact.
You can email Callen Parsons at VCOSS with your organisation’s story here.
