ABI & Disability: Family Sensitive Approaches

Working with families impacted by an acquired brain injury (ABI) is fulfilling and challenging work. Families that present to our services often face complex issues relating to ABI including trauma, grief and stress relating to cognitive, emotional and behavioural changes post-ABI

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Apply Family Sensitive Practice principles to their work with families impacted by ABI
  •  Recognise the impact of complex grief, blame, timelessness and trauma on families
  •  Respond to the unique issues for families and family members following ABI
  •  Conduct therapeutic conversations drawing on single session principles that address family needs post-ABI

Case Managers, Social Workers, Nurses, Medical Staff, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, AOD & Mental Health Workers, Culturally Specific Health & Community Workers.
