Better Public Housing For Bendigo
5th Jul 2018
Public housing tenants in Bendigo will benefit from $10 million in improvements to public housing estates, thanks to an Andrews Labor Government boost to regional public housing.
Minister for Housing Martin Foley today announced the upgrade to the Virginia Hill estate, which will improve public spaces and provide better connections to the surrounding neighbourhood.
Much of the housing in Virginia Hill was built in the 1980s and is old and run down. The upgrade will replace these ageing residences with modern, environmentally-friendly housing better suited to local demand for affordable housing.
The improvement of the estate is part of a $30 million Labor Government boost to regional public housing. The Government is working closely with the City of Bendigo, the local community and tenants design and deliver the project, which will begin development in 2019.
The Department of Health and Human Services will provide support, assistance and advice to all tenants affected by the project.
The Labor Government has invested more than $1 billion in housing and homelessness support to intervene early, get those at risk of homelessness housed quickly and help them maintain that housing.
